Social alnd environmental impacts The project will provide 617.89 gigawatts of electricity per year, about 82 percent of Cambodia's electricity generation in 2005, which will stabilize the supply of electricity and use it for the development of Cambodia's economy. In addition, it will help prevent floods in the Prek Trapeang Roung area during the rainy season. The project also contributes to the development of local infrastructure and amounts to the national budget.

Environmental management plan The company has prepared measures to minimize the negative impacts. For example, the company deploys the standard mechanisms to protect and reduce the oil waste and chemical substances, or other solid wastes, and is equipped with wastewater treatment tools. The company will cooperate with ministries and civil society organizations to restore the forest.

China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. develop hydro-power in Koh Kong. The study group from China chose two studies to study the feasibility of hydroelectric projects. According to the study, the hydroelectric power plant is capable of producing 108 MW of electricity and will require 4.5 years. The total investment cost is about USD 327 million.
