Social alnd environmental impacts The Stung Pursat Hydropower Project will provide a stable electricity supply for development in all sectors, build road infrastructure in the area, and potentially transform the area into a natural tourism area with a large reservoir that can create suitable conditions for the conservation and increase the number of fish and aquatic species. The project will build road infrastructure in the area, improve access roads from the national road, and build staff housing, offices, parks, and other infrastructure.
Employment opportunity The company is recruiting staff during the construction of the transmission system and substation for a period of four years, including detailed plans, requiring 400 employees (300 Cambodians and 100 foreigners).
Public participation Consultation and public consultation on the project, which was conducted during the appraisal study from February 10 to September 9, 2008, and updated in September 2015 and again from October to November 2017. The project will destroy 864.46 hectares of evergreen forests, 850.25 hectares of semi-evergreen forests, and 4,291.5 hectares of deciduous forests.
Environmental management plan The company has prepared and defined several environmental management plan measures, such as setting up monitoring institutions, training programs, and monitoring and surveillance programs, implementing environmental protection measures to prevent and reduce negative environmental impacts, to ensuring sustainable management of natural and social environmental resources in the project area.
Development plan The project will build a 1,226.5 million cubic meter water reservoir spanning 8,591 hectares and 13 electricity transmission towers, requiring 225 square meters of land per tower, as part of an infrastructure plan and the rehabilitation of 30 kilometers of roads.
Mitigation strategies The company has prepared and identified a number of important measures to prevent and reduce all negative environmental impacts to ensure effective management of the area's environmental resources following technical specifications and environmental standards, as well as to ensure the project's sustainable development.
Environmental and social funds For 35 years, the company has planned a total budget of USD ​826,480 for social and environmental funds (USD 667,680 for environmental funds and USD 158,800 for social funds).
