It will be years before oil starts to be produced by energy giant Chevron's offshore site in the Gulf of Thailand. Chevron's permit to extract Block A remains stalled since the government and the company have not yet finished negotiations on terms of the taxation. In the exploration phase, the company was reported to have paid over $160 million. |
Chevron bought out of oil block for $65 million

KrisEnergy, a Singaporean-based oil and gas company, purchased additional 30% controlling interests in Cambodia’s Block A for $65 million from Chevron Global Energy Inc., raising its stake up to 52.25%. Located off the coast of Sihanoukville, the Block A extends over the area of 4,709 square kilometers. |
Offshore Block A provides buzz to Cambodia's petroleum industry

Cambodia's offshore Block A covers an area of 4,709 square kilometers in the water depths of between 50 and 80 meters. With the approval of the partners and the government, the Block A joint venture is expected to consist of KrisEnergy (52.25 %), MOECO Cambodia Co.Ltd (28.5%), GS Energy (14.25%), and Ministry of Mines and Energy (5%). An agreement on the taxation between the Block A holders and the government is necessary for other paper work of the exploitation moving forwards. |

Block A covers an area of 3,083 sq. km over the Khmer Basin offshore Cambodia in water depths of 50 meters to 80 meters. It is located to the east of the Pattani Trough the most prolific hydrocarbon producing basin in Thai waters. The original petroleum agreement for Cambodia Block A was awarded in March 2002. The contract area has undergone two relinquishments from an original area of 6,278 sq. km to 3,083 sq. km on 23 August 2017 signing of the revised petroleum agreement and production permit. |
