Open Development Cambodia (ODC) updates a profile page on “Foreign investment in Cambodia”. This bilingual profile page gives a quick overview of foreign investment in Cambodia, together with related content, such as the definition of foreign investment, the reasons investors invest in Cambodia, priority sectors, the contribution of foreign direct investment to GDP, investment trends by country and sector, similarities and differences between the previous and new laws on investment, and relevant publications. The profile page also consists on related dataset, including foreign investment tracker dashboard, timelines of laws and regulations and events, and major foreign investment projects in Cambodia.

Social accountability

Access to information and open budgets play a crucial role in promoting good governance and social accountability in Cambodia. Social accountability profile page was designed to provide information on budget at the sub-national level, sub-national administrative, education, and healthcare services.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Cambodia

Based on the available data and information released by the Ministry of Health of Cambodia, ODC has recently been collecting and has published a new dataset, interactive map layer and profile page of the “COVID-19” cases found in Cambodia. This new COVID-19 dashboard and dataset gives the demographic information of the cases found and as well as the status of treatment. The ODC team will continually update the dataset in accordance with the cases reported by the government.

Environment and natural resources

Cambodia’s environment provides natural resources including forests, waterways, plants and wildlife. Natural resources also include minerals, energy and extractives. The environment is varied, covering at least seven distinct landscapes across the country.

Forest cover

Data on forest cover is essential for effective forest management and conservation. It enables policymakers to make informed decisions about forest management, such as identifying conservation areas, tracking changes in forest cover, and identifying areas at risk of deforestation. The forest cover profile page contains information, statistics, and datasets on forest cover from 1973 to 2014 produced by ODC, as well as forest cover from 2015 to the present imported from SERVIR Southeast Asia.

Land

Land is fundamental to the livelihoods of many Cambodians. Around 80 percent of people live in rural areas and around 73 percent depend on agriculture for their livelihoods.¹ In urban areas, many are dependent on plots of land close to livelihoods, services and social support networks.

Energy

Energy is about more than just electricity. It includes all means used to provide energy for industrial and domestic purposes, from firewood for cooking to national electricity production. This section focuses on production, distribution and use of power. Activities involving the exploration, extraction and refining of oil and gas are described in the extractive industries section.
