Press release: Introduction of digital tools and legal reforms to strengthen Cambodia’s marine fisheries sector
On 16 December 2025, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the French Development Agency (AFD) issued an announcement regarding the introduction of digital tools and legal reforms to strengthen Cambodia’s marine fisheries sector. The EU-funded CAPFISH-Capture program has modernized fisheries data collection and management through the Integrated Fisheries Information Management System (FIMS) and trained over 100 Fisheries Administration officials on digital tools like Kobo and FishStat. Additionally, a new mobile laboratory vehicle was provided to the Fisheries Administration (FiA) to enable rapid field diagnosis and decentralized aquatic health management. This initiative aims to enhance transparency, ensure the long-term sustainability of marine resources, and improve the livelihoods of coastal communities.
