Court sentences recruitment agency manager
Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Friday sentenced the manager of job recruitment agency VC Manpower to 13 months in prison for ilegally detaining underage recruits at a Phnom Penh training center, while the firm’s foreign director was convicted in absentia to eight years’ imprisonment… General Manager Sen Ly, 43, was arrested in September last year after some recruits managed to escape from the center and contacted human rights workers and the police. The recruits had wanted to leave the center, but the agency refused, because they could not pay back a contractual debt of $700 they owed it for the cost of their training… (Khy Sovuthy and Paul Vrieze, p.20)
