Crackdown yields major timber haul

Authorities in Stung Treng province have confiscated some 651 pieces of “luxury timber” from three communes in Se San district over the past week in an ongoing operation to crack down on illegal logging in the area, police said. The goods were confiscated just as a local trader was preparing to export them, Orn Sam Ath, police chief of Se San district, said, but no arrests were made. … Sam Ath said 53 pieces were found in Talath, 393 in Srekor and 205 in Phdau. … Reach Sokhon, Stung Treng police commissioner, said that authorities are collecting and transporting the timber to store at the provincial hall.
