Groups Rally Behind Adhoc Aid Rights Worker
A day after well-known human rights worker Chan Soveth was summoned by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court over charges of aiding an unnamed perpetrator in an unnamed crime, human rights groups issued a statement branding the charged as politically-motivated and intended to intimidate government critics. “We have been looking into it and we are concerned that what’s being alleged is basically that he’s done what other NGO workers do,” Amnesty International researcher Rupert Abbott said. … “This is latest development in a very bad year that has seen NGO workers and human rights workers intimidated and worse.
