Official Arrested Over Abuse of Land Program
Police in Stung Treng province on Tuesday arrested a Council of Ministers official and her husband for trying to cheat a land-titling program Prime Minister Hun Sen announced last month, according to local officials. It marks the second time this week that authorities arrested or detained officials on suspicion of abusing the plan since Mr. Hun Sen announced it in mid-June. Provincial military police commander Or Borin said that Meas Sokhon, who works for the Council of Ministers’ legal affairs office, and her husband, were arrested Tuesday for “incitement” on orders from provincial Governor Loy Sophat. “We arrested them on the provincial governor’s order [on Tuesday].
