Resettlement Plans Begin for Families Affected by Sesan Dam
Thousand of families that stand to be evicted when construction work on the Lower Sesan 2 Dam begins in 2014 will each receive a 1-hectare plot of land for a home as well as a 5 additional hectares for growing crops, provincial officials said yesterday. Provincial councilor Pouy Chanphala said that authorities have devised design plans for replacement housing, but that the exact location of the resettlement site has not yet been publicly released. “The authorities have plans for resettlement sites but they have not spoken to the villagers yet,” he said. “About half to 1 hectare will be provided for a residential area, and 5 hectares for agricultural land.” …
