ODC team member attended YSEALI Summit 2025 in Malaysia

Mr. Loch Kalyan, a Data Research and GIS Specialist at Open Development Cambodia Organization (ODC), was officially selected to participate in the YSEALI Summit 2025, held from September 8–11, 2025, in Penang, Malaysia.

Hosted by the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur in partnership with Biji-biji Initiative and Cent-GPS, this high-profile summit brings together 113 young leaders from across Southeast Asia. The participants are selected for their dedication to leadership, innovation, and shaping practical responses to regional challenges.

Advancing Leadership and Regional Collaboration

The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a signature program of the U.S. government to strengthen youth leadership and partnerships in Southeast Asia. The 2025 Summit will focus on equipping participants with the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to address pressing regional challenges with an emphasis on sustainable development and cross-border cooperation.

Through keynotes, panel discussions, workshops, and leadership exercises, Mr. Kalyan engaged with peers and professionals working in diverse fields. He also takes part in knowledge-sharing and co-creation sessions aimed at finding innovative solutions that can benefit communities across the region.

A Week of Collaboration and Exchange

Participants engaged in structured activities, including leadership simulations, expert-led panels, and site visits to local organizations. These experiences are designed to address challenges such as economic development, resource management, and diversification issues that impact the region’s long-term growth and stability. At the same time, the program offered opportunities to share vibrant cultural traditions with fellow young leaders from across Southeast Asia, where culture, leadership, and collaboration come together. Moments like these highlight the power of cultural exchange in fostering mutual understanding and unity across borders.

Representing ODC and Cambodia

Mr. Kalyan’s selection is not only a personal achievement but also a proud moment for the entire ODC team. His participation reflects ODC’s broader mission to empower individuals with open data, promote transparency, and support inclusive development in Cambodia and beyond.

“Being part of the YSEALI Summit is an incredible opportunity to learn, share, and grow with fellow young leaders across Southeast Asia. I’m looking forward to bringing back valuable insights that will contribute to our work at ODC and the communities we serve.” — Loch Kalyan, Data Research and GIS Specialist, ODC.
