Statement of information: Cambodia refutes Thai media outlets’ reporting, confirms civilian death by Thai armed forces’ fire in Prey Chan
On 14 November 2025, the Ministry of Interior issued a clarification rejecting reports by Thai media outlets that claimed that no Cambodian citizen died in the incident on November 12 in Prey Chan village, Banteay Meanchey province. The ministry confirmed that the Thai armed forces used M16 long-barreled rifles, resulting in one death—identified as Dy Nai (known as Sal), male, 36 years old—and three other citizens being seriously injured. An autopsy, conducted in the presence of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), confirmed that the death was caused by a bullet that penetrated the lung and severed major blood vessels and was lodged in the right posterior side of the deceased’s body.
