Announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs over Cambodia’s position on South China Sea
On 09th July, 2016, after the Permanent Court of Arbitration set 12 July 2016 as the date to issue its final award over the arbitration case submitted by the Philippines against China on South China Sea dispute, the ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an announcement on Cambodia’s position over the South China Sea dispute, outlining three important decisions:
- The issue is brought by the Republic of the Philippines against China, and that it is not relevant to all ASEAN member states.
- Cambodia will not express any common position on the verdict of the Permanent Court of Arbitration over the case.
- Cambodia calls on the Philippines and China to settle the dispute in peaceful mean.
