CHRC statement: “Sexual violence: A grave crime and serious human rights violation that must be unequivocally punished”
On 18 November 2025, the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) issued a statement condemning the continuous actions of the Thai Armed Forces against Cambodian civilians, which were cruel, inhumane, and in blatant violation of international human rights and humanitarian law. This statement was released publicly following the incident where a Cambodian female migrant worker, aged 18, was brutally gang-raped by seven Thai ‘black-uniformed soldiers’ while returning from Thailand to Cambodia on the night of 15 November 2025. The CHRC condemns this abhorrent act in the strongest possible terms, affirming that sexual violence constitutes a grave crime and a serious violation of human rights that must be severely punished.
