Notification of halting the illegal occupation of land in Preah Suramarit – Kosomak “Kirirom” National Park
On 24 October 2018, the Ministry of Environment issued a notice on halting the illegal occupation of land in Preah Suramarit-Kosomak “Kirirom” National ParK. So far, the Ministry found some areas in this national park were illegally occupied state land, including logging, land selling and transferring illegally, especially violation on the law on protected areas, although the Ministry of Environment, Kompong Speu and Preah Sihanuk provincial administration had put the efforts to protect and prevent adversaries. To prevent these illegal activities, the Ministry appealed and put forward a number of measures, such as:
- Rejection of all kind of documents related to the illegal occupation of land in Preah Suramarit-Kosomak “Kirirom” National Park;
- Those who have been illegally occupied land must immediately stop all construction and dismantle all types of construction by themselves and return the land unconditionally to the Ministry of Environment;
- Institutions and the relevant Sub-national administration have to take action to prevent and suppress tillage overrun land and forest clearing activities as well as any kind of construction purposing to own the national park’s land; these activities are counted an offense the natural resources violating to Article 62 and 63 of the Law on Natural Protected Areas;
- Local administration, especially at the village, commune and district level must immediately stop giving the attestation on land purchasing, selling, transferring letters or draft parcel location.
The notice must cooperate and implement effectively from the date of this notice.
