Cambodia Needs $100 Million Annual Investment to Develop Energy Projects
Phnom Penh: “Cambodia is needing $ 1 billion over the years or at least 100 million annual investment to develop renewable energy projects for rural electrification in order to reduce its dependence on diesel consumption,” said Mr. Toch Sovanna, Director of Departmemnt of Energy Technique, Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, Cambodia (MIME). The announcement was made during the meeting of the 2nd East Asia Summit Energy Efficiency Conference in Phnom Penh on July 31-August 1. He previously said: Cambodia needs about 600 megawatts of power to supply adequately for local consumers, who need power to develop business and household consumption. “The high demand of energy is due to growth of population and business transaction,” he noted. “Cambodia also subscribed electricity power from Vietnam for 370 megawatts but so far Vietnam could afford 135 megawatts because Vietnam also needs high of power.”… Regional meeting on energy: During the two days discussion of the 2nd East Asia Summit Energy Efficiency Conference in Phnom Penh, experts and policies makers of the participants raised issues and strategies for adapting the local and global context.
