Cambodia sees 22 pct rise in garment export in 11 months

Garment industry, Cambodia’s largest foreign currency earner, reported a 22 percent surge in exports in the first 11 months of 2013, according to figures from the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday. The Southeast Asian nation exported apparel products in equivalent to 5.07 billion U.S. dollars during the January- November period this year, up 22 percent from the 4.15 billion U.S. dollars for the same period last year, the figures showed. … During the period, apparel exports to the United States went up by 9 percent to 1.96 billion U.S. dollars, those to Europe rose by 33 percent to 1.81 billion U.S. dollars, and those to other countries increased by 31 percent to 1.3 billion U.S. dollars. … Garment industry accounts for about 80 percent of the country’s total exports. The sector comprises about 500 factories with some 510,000 workers.
