Families Evicted by Railway Project File Complaint With Bank
More than 150 residents evicted from Phnom Penh’s Russei Keo district to make way for a railway rehabilitation project filed a complaint yesterday with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) office in Phnom Penh, one of two principal financiers for the project, saying their relocation site is inadequate and they have fallen into debt. Oeun Saran, one of 166 residents who filed the complaint, said the $400 compensation she was given for moving to a relocation site in Pur Senchey district’s Trapaing Krasaing commune has not been enough to pay for the costs of building a new house, leaving her struggling to pay off mounting loans. …
