Joint workshop on SERVIR and climate services support activity in Cambodia

On 20 February 2018, Open Development Cambodia (ODC) and The Asia Foundation (TAF) have organized a joint workshop on “SERVIR and climate services support activity in Cambodia” at Himawari Hotel, Phnom Penh, funded by the Chemonics International.

The purpose of this workshop is to share the outputs and major findings from the implementation of two projects:

“The use of Google Earth Engine (GEE) to play a role in gender equality and education in flood-prone areas” is a project of Open Development Cambodia (ODC), aims to use Google Earth Engine (GEE) to identify flood inundation zones surrounding the Tonle Sap Lake, especially in Battambang, Kampong Thom, Pursat, and Siem Reap. Fruitful outputs from this project are: ODC enables to produce new category of map layer “Disasters and emergency response” as well as to display the school information in 2012-2013 and flooding area in 2013. Another output from this joint workshop is to introduce ODC website and tool to new users.
“Cambodia Atlas of Gender and Environment” is a project of The Asia Foundation (TAF), aims to contribute to the understanding of how gender informs environment-related vulnerability and the impact of climate change and disaster risks on different group of people in Cambodia. With this project, TAF has produced 60 useful maps with analytical stories of vulnerability and possibility for resilience.

Mr. Chy Terith is giving a presentation on TAF project “Cambodia Atlas of Gender and Environment”.

This workshop was attended by 41 participants including the representative of the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the representative of the SERVIR-Mekong project of Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), representatives of non-governmental organizations working related to environment, education and gender such as the United Nations Development Programme, World Health Organization, Mekong Region Land Governance, Gender and Development for Cambodia, Women Peacemakers, ActionAid, DanChurchAid, Conservation International, Sahmakum Teang Tnaut, the representatives from private sectors including Creative Green Design and Diakonia, as well as university students from Pannasastra University of Cambodia and Institute of Technology of Cambodia.
