Cambodia Expects To Gain Carbon Credit For Forest Community Development

Cambodia expects to gain money from carbon credit next year and it will take their money to develop forest community to support sustainable development, officials said this week. An environmental officials said: Cambodia will likely get money from carbon credit through selling carbon credit to foreign companies, which are concerned about the environment and climate change, H.E. Chheng Kimsun, Delegate of the Royal Government and Head of Forestry Administration said that project in line with the National Forest Program where decentralized forest management through community forestry and community protect areas is a key focus. As part of his commitment to preserve the forest, the governemnt is aiming to establish two million hectares of the community forestry sites nationwide by 2029. … The implementing partners, Pact Cambodia and the Forestry Administration of the Royal Government of Cambodia, along with Children’s Development Association, Monks Community Forestry, and Community Forestry Federation of Oddar Meanchey, have developed the first REDD project, located in the northwestern province of Oddar Meanchey. The project involves 13 Community Forestry Groups, encompassing 58 villages, which protect 64,318 hectares of forest through the implementation of project actions designed to mitigate a variety of deforestation drivers. …
