Indonesia in Talks With Cambodia Over Rice Export Deal
An Indonesian trade delegation is scheduled to visit Cambodia this month to finalize a trade deal that could see up to 100,000 tons of rice exported to Indonesia each year, Thon Virak, director general of state-owned rice exporter Green Trade Co., said on Friday. “Indonesia wants to buy as much [rice] as they can get from Cambodia,” Mr. Virak said, adding, however, that initial talks in August did not specify when the exports would start or at what price the rice would be purchased. … Sales manager for rice exporter Loran Group Plc., Mao Kong, who also works for the Cambodian Rice Exporters Association, said the main hurdle with the Indonesian export deal is the price, as Indonesia is trying to secure a bargain price for lower-quality Cambodian rice.
