Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affair on the outcome of 27th ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue held in Siem Reap on 20-21 February 2020
On 21 February, the Ministry of Foreign Affair and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) has announced a press release on its official Facebook page and website on the outcome of the 27th ASEAN-New Zealand dialogue which held in Siem Reap on 20-21 February 2020. According to the press, the dialogue opens opportunities for both parties to review their cooperation, discuss future direction and to prepare for the ASEAN-New Zealand Leaders’ summit which will be held in Da Nang, Viet Nam on 9 April 2020.
From the dialogue, a variety of common interests and areas have been discussed ranging from the development between the two parties and the South Pacific region, to the regional and international issues such as the Indo-Pacific concepts, Korean peninsula, transnational crime and the issue of climate change. The meeting also reviewed the ASEAN-New Zealand Strategic Partnership which stressed on the disaster risk management, connectivity and initiative for ASEAN integration. Moreover, two crucial documents, namely the draft joint ASEAN-New Zealand Leaders’ Vision Statement on the 45th Anniversary of ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue Relations and the draft new Plan of Action (2021-2025) have also been discussed on which these two documents serve as principal guiding text for charting practical areas of cooperation between the two parties.
