Press Release: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) to Kingdom of Cambodia
On 17 December 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a press release on the outcome outcomes of the meeting between H.E. Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn and H.E. Mrs. Tina Redshaw, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
According to the press, the UK will implement independent trade policy, starting from 01 January 2021. The UK Ministers have decided not to replicate the EU partial withdrawal of trade preferences under the Program Everything But Arms (EBA) from Cambodia taking into account the economic impact of COVID-19 on some of the most vulnerable members of the society, among others, garment workers. The Ambassador said that the UK is exploring ways to establish regular dialogue with Cambodia’s authorities on issues related to human rights and other freedoms.
