30 NGOs condemn arrest, detention of Boeung Kok land activists
Civil society groups have condemned the arrest, detention and conviction of seven Boeung Kok land activists, following their protests earlier this week outside Phnom Penh City Hall. … Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Tuesday charged them with the violation of traffic law by blocking a public road, and sentenced them to one year each in prison. “The target arrest, conviction and sentencing of the Boeung Kok Lake community representatives won’t resolve anything, on the contrary it will further raise international awareness and solidarity for their cause,” Ee Saron, Executive Director of Sahmakum Teang Tnaut (STT), said in a statement jointly issued Wednesday by 30 civil society groups. …
