Int’l Rights Group Says Abuses ‘Systematic’ in Cambodia

An international rights group yesterday said the situation of human rights in Cambodia was continuing to worsen and accused the government of being “at war” with its own citizens over access to land. In its briefing paper, the Paris-based International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) also said that Cambodia was undeserving of one of the rotating seats on the U.N. Security Council, which will be voted on next month. … FIDH said the government needed to cease forced evictions, honor a May moratorium on the issuance of new economic land concessions and investigate violent acts against activists “with a view to prosecute and punish all those responsible for human rights violations.” …
