Mondolkiri Villagers Fear Imminent Eviction
In a land dispute with overtones of last week’s deadly eviction in Kratie province, villagers in Mondolkiri province yesterday said dozens of police were surrounding their houses and threatening to force them out of a private land concession. Sen Sophon, one of about 200 families in Koh Nhek district’s Rayar commune who are in a land dispute with a Vietnamese rubber plantation, said yesterday that district police had burned down three of their homes on Saturday and have since posted more than 70 armed police officers around their village. …
