New Online Service Launched to Smooth Tax Payment

In a bid to ease the collection of the recently introduced tax on properties worth more than $25,000, The Ministry of Finance has launched an online service to help people get the forms they need to pay the tax. In a statement released last week, the ministry said new taxpayers could download the forms from www.tax.gov.kh, while those who had already paid the tax could simply present an identity code to pay the tax. “To make payment easier, clearer and quicker than before, the general department of taxation has changed from issuing payment receipts by hand to a computer system,” the statement said. … In 2011, the first year of its enforcement, payers of the 0.1 percent tax complained of a lengthy bureaucratic process. The compulsory tax only earned the government $11.9 million in 2011, with 113,885 properties nationwide paying up. …
