Residents From Borei Keila Push Back Police
About 40 former Borei Keila residents yesterday pushed back roughly 100 police and military police who threatened to demolish temporary shelters belonging to 16 families still clinging to their land, residents and rights groups said. Prampi Makara district police armed with riot shields, military police and hammer-wielding representatives of Phanimex Company, the firm that owns the land, marched into the community and ordered residents to remove their makeshift tents or risk having them taken down by police, said Chhay Kimhorn, one of the affected residents. “The security guards and police carrying shields, hammers and axes tried to demolish our tents,” said Ms. Kimhorn, adding that after pushing and shoving, police retreated from the area.
