Developer Plans Housing On Former Airport Site

The Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC) is planning to develop a 400-unit apartment complex on the former site of the Ratanakkiri provincial airport, an official with knowledge of the project said yesterday. Ly Teang, Banlung City branch manager for Canadia Bank, whore investors are the same as those in OCIC, said the company had requested permission from the government in order to build apartment blocks, a supermarket and a bank on the land earlier this month, the company registered potential buyers and interest for the project was high, he said. ... Chea Heng, a 39-year-old resident of Banlung City, who said he has registered with the OCIC to buy an apartment unit if they come online, said the asking price for a single unit was between $80,000 and $90,000. The airport stopped commercial flights in 2007.
