Ministry of Labor Launches Anti-Fainting Campaign

The Ministry of Labor on Sunday launched an educational campaign aimed at preventing further mass faintings in garment factories, a ministry official said yesterday.

Meng Hong, director of the ministry’s inspection and legal affairs department, said that the campaign would target more than 30,000 garment workers in factories in Phnom Penh as well as Preah Sihanouk, Kompong Chhnang, Kompong Speu and Svay Rieng provinces. …

According to the ministry, more than 1,400 workers fainted during the first nine months of 2012, a slight decrease from the same period last year when more than 1,500 workers collapsed. Experts have said that the causes of this phenomenon are a combination of poor work conditions, a lack of nutrition and mass hysteria.
