Phnom Penh to get new water treatment plant

Construction is to begin this month on a $40 million water treatment plant to help Phnom Penh meet a growing demand for clean water, following an official contract signing ceremony Friday. The plant, called Niroth 2, is the second stage in a massive water treatment facility being built by the state-owned Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) with a loan from the French development agency (AFD). The first stage, which was funded jointly by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and AFD, has been producing 130,000 cubic meters of potable water per day since January last year. …
