Announcement on vigilance against fraudulent schemes involving the advertising and provision of purported “account and page protection” services on social media in exchange for a fee
On 21 August 2026, Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) issued an announcement on vigilance against fraudulent schemes involving the advertising and provision of purported “account and page protection” services on social media in exchange for a fee.
Any claim to be able to guarantee the protection of an account or page in exchange for a fee constitutes the dissemination of false information, which may contain the elements of the offence of fraud and may give rise to liability under the laws in force. Such advertising generally aims to create fear in order to induce users to pay money or to disclose confidential information — such as telephone numbers, email addresses, passwords, OTP codes, or page administration rights — which may lead to serious consequences.
