Announcement on the return of two additional Khmer artifacts from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, USA
On 10 June 2026, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts issued an announcement on the return of two additional Khmer artifacts from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, USA.
The public is hereby informed that two additional Khmer artifacts from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, USA will be returned to Cambodia after the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office seized them from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The official handover ceremony for the two artifacts will take place at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in New York, USA on June 10, 2026. It is to be noted that in December 2023, the Metropolitan Museum of Art returned 14 Khmer artifacts to Cambodia after years of negotiations.
