Joint press release on the official launch ceremony of cross-border QR code payments between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Phase 2)
On 19 December 2025, the National Bank of Cambodia and the Bank of the Lao PDR issued a statement announcing the official launch of Phase 2 of their cross-border QR code payment system, which now allows Lao citizens traveling in Cambodia to make payments to local merchants by scanning KHQR codes through their mobile banking applications. This initiative aims to promote the use of local currencies, enhance tourism, and strengthen economic ties and regional integration within ASEAN. Phase 1, which enabled Cambodian users to scan and pay in Laos, was successfully implemented in August 2023.
