On 17 January 2024, the Ministry of Mines and Energy issued a press release on the continued prevention of illegal gold mining activities in Memot district, Tboung Khmum province.
The Tboung Khmum Provincial Department of Mines and Energy, under the Ministry of Mines and Energy, collaborated with local authorities to inspect and prevent three additional illegal gold mining sites in Memot District, Tboung Khmum Province, and instructed the owners regarding legal procedures, emphasizing on the serious impact on safety, health, and the environment. Following the instructions received, all site owners voluntarily agreed to dismantle and cease their illegal gold mining activities.
