Villagers Struggle in Face of Chinese Tourism Project
Villagers along the Koh Kong province’s coastline have been relocated by a Chinese development company as they have not been granted access to their farm land which falls within the development area and are running short of food. 20 tons of rice have been delivered by local authorities to the 413 villagers. China’s Union Development Group plans to build an airport in the Botum Sakor National Park on 30,000 hectares that was granted as a concession in 2008, along with the airport they plan to turn the area into a tourism zone with hotels and a golf course.
