ODC participated in BarCamp ASEAN 2018
Barcamp ASEAN 2018 took place on October 20-21, at Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This BarCamp ASEAN 2018 broke the world’s largest BarCamp record having over 8,000 participants, 60 exhibitors, over 95 speakers on 85 topics and 1,000 companies and organizations. The principle of the camp is to bring and gather together the BarCamp organizers and participants in Cambodia and all the ASEAN countries in order to exchange knowledge, skills, and experiences with one another on various topics related to technology, business, startup and career development.
In particular, the participants had a chance to listen to their interested topics by looking around the session board where all the information related to topic presentations stuck on, or going to BarCamp ASEAN webpage to find the topic session online. Although the BarCamp traditionally focused on business innovations and startups, ODC’s presentation contributed to the event’s agenda by representing not just the concept of open data, but how we can protect its privacy. On the 2nd day of the BarCamp ASEAN, ODC team delivered a presentation on “Open Data and Privacy” and also demoing ODC’s website and to search for information about Cambodia and its economic and social development for participants.
In addition, the Open Development Cambodia team had a booth set up in order to welcome and offer participants the opportunity to gain insight into our platform and Site Demo by allowing them to ask questions. We also provided some promotional materials, including ODC notebooks, stickers, wristbands and T-shirts. ODC has received many positive feedback from our users who has been using our website. Thanks to our participants from the private sectors for sharing their interests and giving suggestion to ODC to aggregate more data in related to real estate development in Cambodia as well as the government official from Ministry of Rural Development who suggested for the water and sanitation and ground water data. Last but not least, the well known activities highlighted this year were the launching of Cambodia’s first laptop, Koompi and a meet-up of Cambodia’s most popular YouTube stars.
