Subedi Urges Passage of Laws on Judiciary

U.N. human rights envoy Surya Subedi met with a senior official at the Ministry of Justice on Wednesday and reiterated a call for new legislation to be passed on governing Cambodia’s judiciary. “He did not ask us much on anything new, but he did ask for an update on the work to the Law on the Organisation and Functioning of the Courts and the Law on the Status of Judges and Prosecutors,” [Ministry of Justice Secretary of State] Mr. [Prom] Sidhra said. … The laws have been a long time coming. Their very existence is enshrined in the country’s 1993 constitution, both are still in the draft sage and have bounced back and forth between the Ministry of Justice and the Council of Ministers. …
