On May 25-26, 2018 the ODC team joined the Banteay Meanchey BarCamp. Being the second BarCamp conference organised in 2018, and the first time the event was taken place at the Meanchey University of the Banteay Meanchey province. Frequent visitors will know that BarCamp is an annual event focused on technology, innovations, entrepreneurship, and national development. With the youth being the main target group, the conference usually brings together representatives of NGOs, businesses, civil society and high school and university students. As the BarCamp aims at fostering human resource development in Cambodia, ODC constantly supports this initiative by selecting topical issues and ideas that the audience would be most interested in learning about.

Apart from pure business-oriented topics, this year’s second BarCamp aimed at personal growth. That is why, the ODC team decided to demonstrate how open data platforms could potentially be used for reaching this goal. In particular, on the second day of the event, the team presented on how open data could be used for applying for international study scholarships. As most of the BarCamp participants were either high school or university students, the topic gained interest of more than 70 locals who joined the session lead by ODC for about one hour. During the presentation, the students were able to learn where to look for scholarships, how to start an application, and how to improve their chances for success. Finally, the team demonstrated how the ODC platform could be used for that.
