MAFF’s press release on the protection and conservation of the Mekong River Irrawaddy dolphins

On 15 November 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) issued a press release on the protection and conservation of the Mekong River Irrawaddy dolphins. The ministry confirmed that over the last year, from 13 November 2024 to 13 November 2025, there have been no recorded deaths of dolphins in Cambodia. This marks the first time there have been zero dolphin deaths in a full year since monitoring and recording began in 2002 until the present. Concurrently, Cambodia has welcomed seven new dolphin calves as of November 2025, bringing the total dolphin population in Cambodia to 111 individuals.
