Notification to all local microfinance institutions

On 24 July 2017, the Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) issued an announcement to inform all microfinance institutions and the public that:

  • Cambodian Microfinance Association promotes the implementation of their Code of Conduct.
  • All MFIs cannot accept identification cards, family books or residential books as collateral for loans.
  • All MFIs are purely private and operate with the objective of making profits; thus, loan customers are obliged to repay the loan.
  • MFIs are business institutions and not political entities. Employees of microfinance institutions cannot use logos of their institutions or any part of the service operation to engage in political activities or campaigns.
