Global Witness Adds to Criticism of Chut Wutty Murder Case
Environment rights group Global Witness yesterday joined the call for an independent investigation into the April 26 murder of conservation activist Chut Wutty following the conviction of a security guard in the case. On Monday the Koh Rong Provincial Court sentenced Rann Boroth, a security guard for the logging firm Timber Green, to two years in jail, but immediately suspended 18 months, meaning he could be set free as soon as Saturday taking into account time served since his arrest. … “Despite international calls for a robust investigation, the response from the Cambodian authorities has been erratic and ineffectual,” Global Witness said in a statement. “[Monday’s] decision draws a line under a deeply flawed investigation which produced a range of highly questionable explanations as to how Wutty was killed.” …
