Walmart Denies Link to Factory Tied to Abuse of Cambodians
Mega U.S. retailer Walmart has denied allegations that it buys food products from a Thai seafood factory accused of trafficking and mistreating Cambodian workers. In a report released on Tuesday, the Cambodian Legal Education Center (CLEC), which has sent staff to investigate the Phatthana Seafood Co. factory in Thailand’s Songkhla province, detailed a raft of allegations against the factory and claimed that Walmart was one of the factory’s buyers. The report, based on the testimony of some of the 1,600 Cambodians who have gone to work at the factory in the past two years, said that workers were misled about how much they would earn at the factory, were poorly housed, were refused medical treatment and left without enough food to eat. …
