Cambodia passes fire prevention draft law

The Government of Cambodia on Friday passed a draft law on fire prevention in order to contribute to maintaining security, social safety, public order, and life and property protection, according to a media statement released after the weekly Cabinet meeting. … In the meeting, Hun Sen appealed to private business establishments, especially factories and large-scale hotels, to cooperate with local officials and firefighters in order to prevent fire disaster. … “It aims at enhancing fire prevention in order to protect life, property, environment, security, public order and social safety,” the statement said. “It will increase confidence among investors and tourists.” … According to Kimlek, hundreds of houses and market stalls have been destroyed by fires this year and over a dozen of people were killed in the fires. The latest blaze happened at a night market in the tourism city of Siem Reap province last Saturday, claiming 8 lives and destroying over a hundred souvenir shops.
