Cambodia passes fire prevention draft law

The Government of Cambodia on Friday passed a draft law on fire prevention in order to contribute to maintaining security, social safety, public order, and life and property protection, according to a media statement released after the weekly Cabinet meeting. ... In the meeting, Hun Sen appealed to private business establishments, especially factories and large-scale hotels, to cooperate with local officials and firefighters in order to prevent fire disaster. ... "It aims at enhancing fire prevention in order to protect life, property, environment, security, public order and social safety," the statement said. "It will increase confidence among investors and tourists." ... According to Kimlek, hundreds of houses and market stalls have been destroyed by fires this year and over a dozen of people were killed in the fires. The latest blaze happened at a night market in the tourism city of Siem Reap province last Saturday, claiming 8 lives and destroying over a hundred souvenir shops.
