Cambodia establishes Constructors Association

The Constructors Association (C.A.) was officially formed on October 7th with an aim to develop the country’s construction and real estate sector. The C.A. launching ceremony was presided over by Senior Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction H.E. Im Chhun Lim. The C.A. establishment is to respond to the development of construction in the new era in Cambodia and also to the rapid development in the country’s construction and real estate sector, said the minister. It would also enable Cambodian constructors to communicate and share experiences with constructors associations of the ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Constructors Federation, he added. Oknha Pung Kheav Se, President of the C.A. said the association would set an international standard for sustainable development of the construction sector in the country. The construction is one of the pillars that support the country’s economic growth, he said. In the first semester of the year, the construction grew by 93.79 percent if compared to the same period of the previous year. It contributed 5.5 percent or about US $620 million to the GDP in 2010 and the sector generates some 150,000 jobs, according to the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction’s statistics.
