NEC: Package K is safe

The National Election Committee (NEC) on Thursday said that they had already took preventative measures in order to maintain the safety of the election documents package labeled K. The package contains documents of all of the original election results from the voting station all across the country including documents labeled 1102, 1104 and 1108. … Im Suosdey, president of National Election Committee, commented on the safety protocols after Sam Rainsy, leader of Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) , sent a letter Wednesday to the NEC, questioning the safety of the documents and had also urged the NEC to keep them secure. … According to Cambodian law, the Constitutional Council can force the NEC to open package K in order to verify the election results with the political parties along with observers. Recently, the opposition party had asked NEC to open the package to examine and verify the election results from some of the voting stations in Cambodia. However the NEC rejected the request, saying that package K cannot be opened unless there were serious irregularities. …
