Phnom Penh Clerk Charged With Taking $250K
The Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday charged one of its own clerks [Kruoch Borath] with breach of trust for taking $250,000 dollars that was paid to the clerk to facilitate a speedy trial without “problems,” officials said. … [Another clerk for Judge Lim Meng] Mr. Khen did not reveal the names of those involved with giving the massive payment to the clerk, but he said the business dispute was filed in 2011 and that the “deposits” were made in several installments over a period of time. The country’s court clerks have long been accused of- and regularly charged with- abusing their power, from taking bribes to making threats and unlawfully doing the work of prosecutors and judges. …
