MFAIC statement on the status of 18 Cambodian soldiers held captive in Thailand
On 3 December 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement addressing the status of 18 Cambodian soldiers unlawfully detained by Thailand for 127 days since 29 July 2025. The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) is working tirelessly through every possible diplomatic avenue, including direct engagement with Thailand and consultation with regional and international leaders, to secure their prompt and unconditional release. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been closely engaged to ensure the soldiers are treated according to international humanitarian law, keep their families informed of their well-being, and express readiness to support their future repatriation.
