Updates on the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand Border: 13-15 October 2025
On 16 October 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation released an update on the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, covering the period from 13 to 15 October 2025. The Cambodian leadership has pursued diplomatic channels, notably with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia to discuss the border crisis. During this meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen was also briefed on reports that the Thai side had been playing “ghost-wailing” and other disturbing sounds loudly for approximately four consecutive nights. This tactic was reportedly intended to harass Cambodian citizens in Chouk Chey and Prey Chan villages.
Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful and restrained stance, stressing its desire to avoid further suffering for the people of both nations. It seeks to resolve the conflict through bilateral mechanisms, strictly adhering to the ASEAN Charter, the UN Charter, and international law. The government maintains that “Peace is a necessary precondition to achieving our common goals.” Furthermore, Cambodia issued an urgent call for the unconditional and immediate release of all 18 detained soldiers, emphasizing the necessity of complying with international humanitarian law.
